התוכן אחז"ל עה"פ "הליכות עולם לו – אל תקרי הליכות אלא הלכות". ידוע הכלל בדרשת "אל תקרי כו' אלא וכו'" ששני הפירושים קיימים גם יחד. ובעניננו: כדי שיהי' להקב"ה "מהלכים" בעולם ("הליכות עולם"), שהעולם נעשה "דירה" לו ית', ה"ז ע"י ההלכות שבתורה – להורות כיצד צריכה להיות ההנהגה בעולם. לימוד התורה רק כדי לצבור לעצמו "נכסים" או כי הוא נהנה מענין השכלי שבתורה וכו' – אינו תכלית ענין התורה. לימוד התורה, גם באלו ש"תורתם אומנתם", צ"ל באופן של "ללמוד וללמד לשמור ולעשות ולקיים", "תלמוד גדול" הוא בכך שהוא "מביא לידי מעשה" – "הליכות עולם לו". הלומד התורה, שהיא נכסיו של ממה"מ הקב"ה, משתמש בכליו של מלך! אלא שהמלך נותן לו על כך "רשות" כדי שהלימוד יביא לאותם ענינים ש"תלמוד מביא", שכללותם נקראים בשם "מעשה".משיחת שמחת בית השואבה ה'תשט"ז ל"הנחה פרטית" או התרגום ללה"ק של השיחה: https://thedailysicha.com/?date=21-02-2025 Synopsis On the verse, “…The ways of the world are his,” our Sages taught, “Do not read it as ‘ways’ (halichos), but as ‘halachos.’” We know that when it says, “Do not read it as…but…” – both interpretations are valid. In this case: in order for Hashem to have mehalchim [i.e. beings that advance spiritually] in the world (“the ways of the world”), such that the world becomes a dwelling place for Him, there must be the halachos of the Torah, which show how one must conduct himself in the world. Studying Torah only to amass “possessions” for oneself or because one enjoys its intellectual concepts, is not the purpose of the Torah. (As discussed many times, the soul’s eternity doesn’t need to be taken on faith; any reasonable person understands it. Only the soul’s connection with the body isn’t eternal.) But on the other hand, on a yahrtzeit one says Kaddish, “May His great name be magnified and sanctified,” implying growth and elevation, associated with the soul’s ascent from world to world. The power to magnify the eternal soul etc. comes about through peace, which is the union of opposites. (As the Gemara says, when Moshe ascended on high, Hashem asked him, “Is there no peace in your city?” (I.e., do people not greet each other in your city?) Moshe replied, “Now may the power of Hashem be magnified”. For although “action is the main thing,” when action is accompanied by intellectual comprehension and heartfelt emotion, the action becomes greater and deeper, and attains more vitality, as we see in practice. As the Baal Shem Tov taught on the verse, “When you see a donkey (chamor)... you shall surely help along with him,” that one should not try to break the body and the animal soul, but on the contrary, to serve Hashem together with them – and with the additional dimension added by the Chabad approach, that not only does the faculty of action agree to it and serve Hashem, but all the faculties of the body, including the intellect of the mind. Therefore, it is obvious that any gathering of many Jews should be utilized first and foremost to strengthen Yiddishkeit among the local community. Yet it didn’t occur to anyone at the meeting to use it as an opportunity to strengthen Yiddishkeit in New York! This, despite the fact that it is doubtful whether they could help those faraway, but it is certain that they could help locally. Similarly, being a “shining lamp” in general applies even to married people who have left the confines of the yeshiva; now they are considered “domesticated animals” (“who sleep in the city”), because when it gets “dark,” they return home… (2) Everyone (especially the married people, who are involved in worldly matters) must work to instill within themselves the recognition that nothing exists other than Hashem and Lubavitch (the teachings of Chassidus, and Torah in general), a reality that will be revealed in the future. This is expressed in action (the main thing) – “These are the laws that you must set before them.” When a Jew, even at a time when, “we are still servants of Achashverosh,” stands firm and “neither kneels nor prostrates himself,” such that even when it comes to “Mishpatim” – laws that make sense reationally – he fulfills them only because they have been “set before them” by Moshe – that causes “the month to be transformed etc.” already at the start of the month, even before Purim. Not encroaching on others etc. doesn’t harm one’s livelihood; to the contrary – adhering to these laws ensures that one’s earnings will be used for good things. Based on this he explains that’s Rav Yehuda’s statement, “A person should always study Torah not for its sake, because from doing it not for its sake he will come to do it for its sake” was “advice to his students…that they should first toil not for its sake,” but rather to draw their souls near to Hashem. For example, the Beis Hamidash: although the physical Beis Hamikdash was destroyed, the Beis Hamikdash continues to exist spiritually in every Jew, and the service of Korbanos continues to exist spiritually in tefillah. Similarly, the gentiles were only able to destroy the physicality of Eretz Yisrael, but spiritually, even today, on the Rosh Hashana for Trees a Jew is inspired, and eats the fruits for which Eretz Yisrael is praised, saying the bracha on it, and thinking the meaning of the words etc. (thought, speech, and action). And even better is to associate it with learning something connected to the day as well. Regarding the concept of “on this day”: The difference between Moshe and all other prophets is that the prophets prophesied using the term “So” (Koh), because they saw only an image, whereas Moshe, who prophesied with the term “This” (Zeh) – had a direct vision of the matter itself. (When Moshe said “So said Hashem: About midnight...” – that’s because what he said to Pharaoh – “about midnight” – was not Hashem’s exact words, as Hashem had said “at midnight” precisely.) Meaning, even though they had just left a harsh exile and were running to receive the Torah – they didn’t receive the Torah until they had an impact so that even Yisro, who wasn’t born a Jew, and who was a “priest of Midyan” who had served every idolatry, came to recognize that Hashem is greater than all the deities. The lesson is that a Jew must not suffice with illuminating his own home and educating his own children in the path of Torah and mitzvos – in order for him and his family to merit to receive the Torah, he must also draw others near, even those who are in “Midyan,” and bring them to receive the Torah too.
